Alternative energy: Energy produced from renewable sources, such as sunlight or wind.
Biodegradable: Capable of decomposing under natural conditions.
Biofuels: Fuels from recently living plants and animals, or metabolic byproducts such as manure from cows.
CFCs: Chlorofluorocarbons. Used in refrigerants, cleaners and aerosols and in the making of plastic foams, CFCs are greenhouse gases.
Compact Fluorescent Bulb: A smaller version of a fluorescent lamp that fits into a standard light bulb socket.
DIY Solar Panels: Use proven plans to build your own solar panels at home.
Energy audit: The process of determining the energy consumption of a building or facility.
Environmental Footprint: The impact of an organization in categories such as resource use and waste generation.
Carbon Footprint: A "carbon footprint" details how much carbon dioxide an organization adds to the atmosphere.
Ethanol: An automotive fuel derived from grass, sugar cane or corn.
Methanol: An alcohol that can be used as an alternative fuel or as a gasoline additive.
Active Solar Heater: A solar water or space-heating system that moves heated air or water using pumps or fans.
Solar Concentrator: An arrangement of photovoltaic cells that includes a lens to concentrate sunlight onto small-area cells.
Inverters: Devices that convert dc electricity into ac electricity.
Photovoltaic Cell: The element within a PV module that converts light into electrical energy (dc voltage and current).
Solar Energy: Energy from the sun.
Residential Solar Power: An autonomous or hybrid solar energy system not connected to a grid.
R-value: A measurement of the insulating performance of a material.
